Frequently Asked Questions
Why does AnySearch need file access permission?
AnySearch needs permission to read file metadata (name, path, size, modification date) in order to build its search index. It does not read file contents — only metadata. This is required by macOS App Sandbox security.
How much disk space does the index use?
The index is very compact. For a typical Mac with 1,000,000 files, the SQLite database is usually under 100 MB. The index is stored locally and never transmitted over the network.
How do I rebuild the index?
Go to Settings → Indexing → Rebuild Index. This will clear the existing index and re-scan all configured directories. The process runs in the background and typically completes within a few minutes.
Which macOS versions are supported?
AnySearch requires macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or later.
How do I restore my purchase?
Go to Settings → Subscription → Restore Purchases. This will sync your purchase status with the Mac App Store. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
Does AnySearch read my file contents?
No. AnySearch only reads file metadata: name, path, size, and modification date. It never opens, reads, or modifies your files. Your data stays completely private.
Does AnySearch send data to the internet?
No. AnySearch is 100% local. It makes zero network requests (except for Mac App Store purchase verification handled by Apple). No analytics, no tracking, no telemetry.
Can I search file contents?
Currently, AnySearch searches file names only. Content search may be added in a future version.
